Hi all.

I'm tryng to install gentoo again after many years (i have already 3 gentoo pc, but i never done a new install from ages, update power of gentoo).

This pc, that i want install to, have some problems with framebuffer.. is a glitch festival.

Sadly i saw that there's no gentoo-nofb kernel in minimal amd64 cd image.

Why?

Hello tom!79,

I recently built a box with install-amd64-minimal-20181113T214502Z.iso and it has the gentoo-nofb option (you have to type it and it starts that way). What install medium have you downloaded?

mybe i'm a little rusty.

Same iso: install-amd64-minimal-20181113T214502Z.iso

UEFI bios (first time using gentoo with efi)

Ah! My bad, sorry. I used it on a VirtualBox, which by default launches the legacy (BIOS) mode.

As a workaround maybe you could check the SystemRescueCD under UEFI, its a good substitute of the official iso with the tools needed to complete the Gentoo installation.

the Gentoo Minimal Install CD does not support UEFI booting/installing. You will have to uze SystemRescueCD for that.

The newer ones do, at least from a bit over a month ago. But the SystemRescueCD is just a superior option regardless.

Was not aware they had updated the Minimal. Good to know.

Well yes, the boot work with uefi, never told otherwise, but is a little useless if you have some pains with the framebuffer ...

I know that's all only for fun and love, but is not so cool to be force to use a workaround to install a distribution cause lack of support from the official installer media.

Anyway there's no other distro like Gentoo, that's great, that wasn't a claim, was only an observation.

Yes. IMO Gentoo shouldn't even bother with an install CD image. Well, maybe for offline installation it would make sense, but why not just have the snapshot and use the rescue cd?

I've tried to make that point before, but people get all crazy-like when I talk about it.

At least there should be note somewhere on handbook page that you can try Gentoo based SystemRescueCd if encountered problem with official discs.

Actually they do. https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Handbook:AMD64/Installation/About

Scroll down a little bit to "Installation options for Gentoo"

I wish they would make it more prominent, is all.
