I modified the USE flags,
Code:
VIDEO_CARDS="nouveau intel"
INPUT_DEVICES="libinput synaptics"

before installing xorg.

I did not make any changes to the kernel. (I used genkernel to setup my kernel while installing Gentoo)

Installed xorg using -
Code:
emerge --ask x11-base/xorg-server
env-update
source /etc/profile

I ran
Code:
nvidia-xconfig

but got the error command not found.

I rebooted my system.
Ran startx on boot.

Got the error logs-
Code:
xauth: file /root/serverauth.4223 does not exist.
xauth: file /root/XAuthority does not exist
xauth: file /root/XAuthority does not exist.

X.org server 1.20.3
....
other logs
....

Version of pixman 0.34.0
....
other logs
....

modprobe: FATAL: Module fbcon not found in directory lib/modules/4.14.83-gentoo
intel: waited 2020 ms for i915.ko driver to load
(EE)
     Fatal Server Error:
(EE)Cannot run in frame buffer mode. Please specify busIDs for all framebuffer services.
....
other logs
....

xinit: giving up
xinit: unable to connect to X server: Connected refused
xinit: server error

There might be some typos in the logs since I am posting it after writing the logs down in a notepad(not having been able to install a GUI yet). I can use wgetpaste if all of the logs is necessary (I don't think so since they were mostly links for me to look at the wiki)

reikdas,

Code:
intel: waited 2020 ms for i915.ko driver to load

tells that you have a kernel option missing.
Code:

  ┌─────────────────── Intel 8xx/9xx/G3x/G4x/HD Graphics ────────────────────┐
  │ CONFIG_DRM_I915:                                                         │
  │                                                                          │
│ Choose this option if you have a system that has "Intel Graphics         │
│ Media Accelerator" or "HD Graphics" integrated graphics,                 │
  │ including 830M, 845G, 852GM, 855GM, 865G, 915G, 945G, 965G,              │
  │ G35, G41, G43, G45 chipsets and Celeron, Pentium, Core i3,               │
│ Core i5, Core i7 as well as Atom CPUs with integrated graphics.          │
  │                                                                          │
│ This driver is used by the Intel driver in X.org 6.8 and                 │
│ XFree86 4.4 and above. It replaces the older i830 module that            │
│ supported a subset of the hardware in older X.org releases.              │
  │                                                                          │
│ Note that the older i810/i815 chipsets require the use of the            │
│ i810 driver instead, and the Atom z5xx series has an entirely            │
  │ different implementation.                                                │
  │                                                                          │
│ If "M" is selected, the module will be called i915.

Rebuild your kernel with that option set an a module.

I get a different set of error logs now on running startx

Code:
xauth: file /root/serverauth.4261 does not exist

INFO

The XKEYBOARD keymap compiler reports:
    >Warning: Unsupported high keycode 372 for name <1372> ignored
        >X11 cannot support keycodes above 255.
            >This warning only shows for the first high key code.

Errors form xbcomp are not fatal to the X server.
dbus-update-activation-environment: error: unable to connect to D-Bus: Using X11 for dbus-daemon autolaunch was disabled at compile time, set your DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS instead
/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc: line 62: exec: xterm: not found
/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc: line 61: exec: xterm: not found
/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc: line 59: exec: xclock: not found
/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc: line 58: exec: twm: not found
/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc: line 60: exec: xterm: not found

xinit: connection to X server lost

Waiting for X server to shutdown(II). Server terminated successfully(0). Closing log file.

I tried pasting the logs using wgetpaste but
Code:
xstartx > xstartx.log & wgetpaste xstartx.log

hung my computer. Ctlr+C ing out of the hung process disabled my keyboard for some reason (none of the characters showed up on the tty).

Code:
/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc: line 62: exec: xterm: not found
/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc: line 61: exec: xterm: not found
/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc: line 59: exec: xclock: not found
/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc: line 58: exec: twm: not found
/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc: line 60: exec: xterm: not found

But what you want run with startx? By default /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc wants to start twm, xterm and xclock but these aren't installed
