Because of sys-kernel/linux-firmware-20190221-r1 release,I tried to update stable kernel
Code:
4.9.158 with skl_dmc_ver1_27.bin
by manually editing
Code:
grep skl .config
CONFIG_EXTRA_FIRMWARE="intel-ucode/06-5e-03 i915/skl_dmc_ver1_26.bin rtl_nic/rtl8411-1.fw"
which dmesg reported:
Code:
i915 0000:00:02.0: Direct firmware load for i915/skl_dmc_ver1_26.bin failed with error -2
Doing this GPU firmware thing in kernel is quite new to me, so I lack update practice there...

1_26 was doing fine... Does 1_27 requires kernel minor version update to some of the newest?
Maybe 1_27 isn't for my GPU... Or is it something else?

Thks 4 ur attention.

It looks like you didnt compile the kernel again, because your dmesg reports the old version 1.26 failed. Changing the kernel config only has no effect to your running kernel unless you build a new one.

My line is:
Code:
CONFIG_EXTRA_FIRMWARE="i915/skl_dmc_ver1_27.bin intel-ucode/06-5e-03"

and I get:
Code:

Mar  7 12:09:30 big kernel: [    0.374557] checking generic (d0000000 300000) vs hw (d0000000 10000000)

I didn't mentioned kernel rebuild, although I'm almost sure I did.
I will do it again to double check
Could you tell your kernel version please?

Thks 4 ur attention, interest & support.

I am still on 4.20.13 (non-stable) and waiting a little bit with 5.00 because of a thread here. I dont know when I needed 1.27. It is some time ago (maybe a year).
