Hello Gentoo people,

so, kernel 5 is up, and as noob, do I still update it 'as usual'?
what I do is emerge -uDNa @world,
than eselect set new kernel,
than move to that new folder,
copy working kernel .config
and make syncconfig.
Than I make and install it,
and finally I let grub know what's up.
Reboot.

I was warned that only major versions might have hiccups,
so is the above procedure ok? or do I have to watch out for something to add?
I am most worried about make syncconfig part...

Thank you, yours eternal noob.

while true,

kernel 5.0 is the same as 4.21 would have been but even with his shoes and socks off, Linus can't count to 21 :)
The update from 4.20 to 5.0 is the same as it ever was.

Hiccups are centred around external tools that break with a major kernel version update, not the kernel itself.
Hopefully those bugs will have been fixed properly at the 3 to 4 transition.

ok, Neddy, thank you again so much for as per usual fast and to the point answer.
I'll update it over night, qlop says electron (which is also scheduled for update) takes 2 hours to compile,
and I have to sent out some more job applications today.
