I back up my home LV every night starting with this command:
Quote:
lvcreate -L2G -s -n homebackup /dev/lvm/home
[mount external disk; backup commands; etc]

I have started getting this message in my logs:
Quote:
kernel: systemd-udevd[7895]: conflicting device node '/dev/mapper/lvm-home' found, link to '/dev/dm-4' will not be created

The files on my home LV are backed up correctly. Is this error message harmless and can it be ignored? Is my snapshot command incorrect (I didn't get the error message in the past).
I use lvm2-2.02.145-r2 and kernel 4.19.27-gentoo-r1
TIA.

Have you resolved the issue?

I have the same problem.
Even worse - first call of lvremove just hangs (only kill -9 helps), but second call is fine.

Maybe it because for some time '/dev/mapper/' contains block special files instead of symlinks to '/dev/dm-*' (as far as I can remember, it used to be).

Yes - the message is still there. Seems to be a harmless irritation.

I've found your reported bug https://bugs.gentoo.org/701056

And there is the solution against hangs for me.

But yes noise messages in dmesg still here :(
