Hello

I'm running Gentoo on several hosts since 2004. Naturally, I run it in UEFI mode on recent hosts. I never had issues with efibootmgr.

One host is particularly stubborn and refuses to load efivars module and naturally I'm not able to modify efivars. the sysrescue CD that I used for install could access efi vars on this host so I set up the efi boot entries.

Is there any way get a more verbose output from modprobe or efivars module about what went wrong in particular?

Code:

home64 /usr/src/linux # zcat /proc/config.gz | grep -i efi
CONFIG_EFI=y
# CONFIG_EFI_STUB is not set
CONFIG_DMI_SCAN_MACHINE_NON_EFI_FALLBACK=y
# EFI (Extensible Firmware Interface) Support
CONFIG_EFI_VARS=m
CONFIG_EFI_ESRT=y
CONFIG_EFI_VARS_PSTORE=m
# CONFIG_EFI_VARS_PSTORE_DEFAULT_DISABLE is not set
CONFIG_EFI_RUNTIME_MAP=y
# CONFIG_EFI_FAKE_MEMMAP is not set
CONFIG_EFI_RUNTIME_WRAPPERS=y
CONFIG_EFI_BOOTLOADER_CONTROL=m
CONFIG_EFI_CAPSULE_LOADER=m
# CONFIG_EFI_TEST is not set
CONFIG_UEFI_CPER=y
CONFIG_UEFI_CPER_X86=y
CONFIG_EFI_PARTITION=y
CONFIG_FB_EFI=y
# CONFIG_CACHEFILES is not set
CONFIG_EFIVAR_FS=m
CONFIG_EARLY_PRINTK_EFI=y
# CONFIG_EFI_PGT_DUMP is not set

Code:

home64 /usr/src/linux # uname -a
Linux home64 4.19.10-rt-rt8 #3 SMP PREEMPT RT Thu Apr 18 16:22:02 MSK 2019 x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-8600K CPU @ 3.60GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

Thanks for suggestions.

I load my efi vars using efivarfs module. the efi vars config is marked as built in.

Hmm...

I checked the rt-sources kernel on my laptop and found out that it can't access efivars either... It seems to be the issue with rt-sources kernel.

try to mark all of them built in, how do you mount efivarfs?
