Hey,

my system won't boot any more.

Code:

root block device (UUID=...) :: !! Could not find the root block device in UUID=... .

The system is LUKS encrypted. The kernel I try to install is the latest (5.1.0).

I installed it TWICE, but nothing worked: My installation procedure:

Code:

emerge --ask --noreplace gentoo-sources:5.1.0

cd /usr/src/linux
cp .config ~/kernel-config-`uname -r`

eselect kernel list
eselect kernel set 3

cd /usr/src/linux

cp /boot/config-4.12.5-gentoo /usr/src/linux/.config

make olddefconfig

make -j15
make install
make modules_install
genkernel --luks --lvm initramfs

grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg

Any ideas how to solve this issue?

Thanks!

First, does the old kernel still work? What is the full output of the "Cannot find" line? Are the kernel command lines for both kernels the same? What block devices does the bad kernel see? If you build a new kernel off the sources of the good kernel, does that one work?

Prof. Frink,

Code:
cp /boot/config-4.12.5-gentoo /usr/src/linux/.config

If I was going where you are going, I wouldn't start from there.
