What is this, and how to solve ?

cd /usr/src/linux/ && make -j9 recently resulting in
Code:
  DESCEND  objtool
Schluss.
make[3]: *** [Makefile:43: /usr/src/linux-4.19.37-gentoo/tools/objtool/fixdep-in.o] Fehler 2
make[2]: *** [/usr/src/linux-4.19.37-gentoo/tools/build/Makefile.include:4: fixdep] Fehler 2
make[1]: *** [Makefile:63: objtool] Fehler 2
make: *** [Makefile:1651: tools/objtool] Fehler 2
make: *** Es wird auf noch nicht beendete Prozesse gewartet....

How can I fix this? Btw. tried LC_ALL=C make, but the output is still in german. Hope you can see an obvious error anyway and direct me to a solution to re-enable me building a kernel.

May this have something to do with the recent gcc upgrade? I see 8.2.0 above while gcc 8.3.0 comes from being stabilized.

Is it worth doing an emerge -e system && emerge -e world or would that be an overkill?

Code:
make[4]: *** Keine Regel vorhanden, um das Ziel ?/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/8.2.0/include/stddef.h?,

You have some reference to gcc-8.2 but you installed 8.3. Try to run make clean first

you better switch to that 8.3 gcc, eselect gcc set x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-8.3.0 first

It's already with gcc-8.3
Code:
Portage 2.3.62 (python 3.6.5-final-0, default/linux/amd64/17.0/desktop/plasma, gcc-8.3.0, glibc-2.28-r6, 4.19.37-gentoo x86_64)

Elleni,

Fehler 2 from the log is a second or subsequent error. Its likely to be caused by Fehler 1 further up the log.

With make -j9, it can be a long way up the log too as the kernel make system is recursive.
That's the error we need to see and fix 20 or so lines of context around Fehler 1 would be good.

source /etc/profile, as portage tells to do after updating GCC.

I called Sherlock Holmes, he looked at the facts and concluded:

These sources were used to build a kernel with gcc-8.2. Then the gcc was upgraded and another kernel build was attempted - without running 'make clean' beforehand.

Jaglover, thats correct. I did not even realize that gcc had got updatet. make clean did the trick. I will put that one to closed. As talking about gcc-upgrade, is a rebuild of world -e advised?

Elleni,

Not for the gcc-8.2 to gcc-8.3 upgrade, no.
If you are particularly paranoid, you can rebuild binutils but that should not be required either.

Rebuilds of bits and pieces may be required with gcc major version bumps but gcc-7, to gcc-8 and now to gcc-9 all have a backwards compatible ABI, so nothing breaks if you mix them.

The kernel is special. It tracks the the gcc used to build it and things fail if you try to build its parts with two different gcc versions.

Not quite. Error 2 just means that the target exited with exit code 2.
Code:
$ for a in {1..5} ; do printf "$a:\n\texit $a\n" | make -f -; done
exit 1
make: *** [/tmp/Gm1Xo7U3:2: 1] Error 1
exit 2
make: *** [/tmp/GmDWGMK3:2: 2] Error 2
exit 3
make: *** [/tmp/Gm8HljH3:2: 3] Error 3
exit 4
make: *** [/tmp/GmfHyUD3:2: 4] Error 4
exit 5
make: *** [/tmp/Gm3Cv5A3:2: 5] Error 5
