When checking the consistency of Linux firmware I get the output with the following error message:

Code:
dmesg | grep -i firmware
[    0.176693] Spectre V2 : Enabling Restricted Speculation for firmware calls
[    0.200570] ACPI: [Firmware Bug]: BIOS _OSI(Linux) query ignored
[    1.280196] platform regulatory.0: Direct firmware load for regulatory.db failed with error -2

I installed firmwere to wheel nouveau. I have not noticed any problems with system operation, other than freezes when playing videos in the surf browser, which uses webkit-gtk.

What do you do from it?

nubiocicarini,

Code:
[    1.280196] platform regulatory.0: Direct firmware load for regulatory.db failed with error -2

Thats WiFi related firmware. At 1.28 sec into startup, root cannot yet be mounted, so your regulatory.db firmware file needs to be included in the kernel binary.

nubiocicarini,

Yes. The regulatory.db file tells the wifi driver the permitted operating parameters for the region its in.

Sounds like an old kernel ( configure?) Bug. Even if you "mak allnoconfig" you still get a boat-load of network drivers enabled...

Exactly, I cleaned the kernel configuration (make distclean) and the error still persists. But my concern was because I did not know the source of the error and suspected a relationship with the drive nouveau nvidia firmware that fails with webkit-gtk when running videos. Now that I know that the error is unrelated, I am calm.

make distclean? It wipes away your .config, you can call it cleaning but it really destroys. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

I made a backup of it before the distclean. Really a lot of time would be lost with the pure distclean. But this function is really cool, because I already had problems with configuration files at the time of make install and it helped me deal with it.
