Hi,

I want to install Gentoo amd64 on a PC with Pentium D CPU and intel GMA945 onboard vga.

by reading https://github.com/intel/Intel-Linux-Processor-Microcode-Data-Files/blob/master/releasenote I saw:

Quote:

BDX-DE V2/3 6-56-3/10 07000016->07000017 Xeon D-1518/19/21/27/28/31/33/37/41/48, Pentium D1507/08/09/17/19

Which one is the exact firmware for Pentium D CPU's (Intel fam 15) and is there a firmware for Intel GMA945 onboard vga?

For the firmwares in i915/ folder, which one is (or ones are) for "Intel 82945G/GZ Integrated graphics"?

ls /lib/firmware/i915/ shows:

Code:
bxt_dmc_ver1_07.bin        glk_huc_ver03_01_2893.bin  skl_dmc_ver1_23.bin
bxt_dmc_ver1.bin           icl_dmc_ver1_07.bin        skl_dmc_ver1_26.bin
bxt_guc_32.0.3.bin         icl_guc_32.0.3.bin         skl_dmc_ver1_27.bin
bxt_guc_ver8_7.bin         icl_huc_ver8_4_3238.bin    skl_dmc_ver1.bin
bxt_guc_ver9_29.bin        kbl_dmc_ver1_01.bin        skl_guc_32.0.3.bin
bxt_huc_ver01_07_1398.bin  kbl_dmc_ver1_04.bin        skl_guc_ver1.bin
bxt_huc_ver01_8_2893.bin   kbl_dmc_ver1.bin           skl_guc_ver4.bin
cnl_dmc_ver1_06.bin        kbl_guc_32.0.3.bin         skl_guc_ver6_1.bin
cnl_dmc_ver1_07.bin        kbl_guc_ver9_14.bin        skl_guc_ver6.bin
glk_dmc_ver1_04.bin        kbl_guc_ver9_39.bin        skl_guc_ver9_33.bin
glk_guc_32.0.3.bin         kbl_huc_ver02_00_1810.bin  skl_huc_ver01_07_1398.bin

Also I would need to put VIDEO_CARDS="intel i915" in make.conf (for drm), right?

isn't this made to answer that question? (it comes from the wiki link i gave you)
Code:
grep -B 1 'MODULE_FIRMWARE.*SKL' drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_guc_loader.c drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_csr.c

bigbanana69,

If you build the kernel driver for your Intel 82945G/GZ VGA as a module, the kernel driver will help itself to firmware from /lib/firmware, or shout at you in dmesg if its not found.

If you build the code into the kernel binary, you must include the firmware in the kernel binary.
Again, dmesg will tell you all about if if its missing.
