Hello, everyone. This is my second time attempting to install an Gentoo on an x64 pc.
After setting up the user using
Code:
useradd -m -g users,wheels,input pityhero
and
Code:
passwd pityhero
to do the settings, I installed grub2 and reboot.
Everything seems fine at first, the system startup and the gdm worked as well. However, it didn't show the list of users as usual. I manually entered my username "pityhero" and password, but it tells me the password is wrong.I tried root account(though I know it's disabled usually for security reasons),and it also says password incorrect.
Then, I switched to TTY using Ctrl+Alt+F2, and I found that I can't even login with my account and root account, they just say "password incorrect".
I rebooted, chrooted into the system using liveCD and rechecked the user.Yep, it was there. I'm frustrated.
So what's the problem?Thanks

pityhero,

Welcome to Gentoo.

Did you set the keymap in your console in your Gentoo?
It may be different to what you expect as it defaults to American.

Being in the UK, thats not quite good enough for me as I have a symbol in some passwords that is in a different location depending on the keymap.

Code:
wheels
is not a valid group. It needs to be wheel (without the s) so you can become root with the sudo command.

Slight correction, you need to be member of wheel for su command.
