Hello,

using the latest testing packages.

For some reason default udev rules doesn't apply to my touchpad.

Code:

$ udevadm info --query=all --name=/dev/input/mouse0 --attribute-walk

Udevadm info starts with the device specified by the devpath and then
walks up the chain of parent devices. It prints for every device
found, all possible attributes in the udev rules key format.
A rule to match, can be composed by the attributes of the device
and the attributes from one single parent device.

  looking at device '/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/input/input7/mouse0':
    KERNEL=="mouse0"
    SUBSYSTEM=="input"
    DRIVER==""

  looking at parent device '/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/input/input7':
    KERNELS=="input7"
    SUBSYSTEMS=="input"
    DRIVERS==""
    ATTRS{name}=="SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad"
    ATTRS{uniq}==""
    ATTRS{phys}=="isa0060/serio1/input0"
    ATTRS{properties}=="5"

  looking at parent device '/devices/platform/i8042/serio1':
    KERNELS=="serio1"
    SUBSYSTEMS=="serio"
    DRIVERS=="psmouse"
    ATTRS{firmware_id}==""
    ATTRS{protocol}=="SynPS/2"
    ATTRS{resync_time}=="0"
    ATTRS{resolution}=="200"
    ATTRS{description}=="i8042 AUX port"
    ATTRS{resetafter}=="5"
    ATTRS{bind_mode}=="auto"
    ATTRS{rate}=="80"

  looking at parent device '/devices/platform/i8042':
    KERNELS=="i8042"
    SUBSYSTEMS=="platform"
    DRIVERS=="i8042"
    ATTRS{driver_override}=="(null)"

  looking at parent device '/devices/platform':
    KERNELS=="platform"
    SUBSYSTEMS==""
    DRIVERS==""

Code:

$ ls -la /dev/input/mouse0
crw-rw---- 1 root root 13, 32 Sep 12 17:44 /dev/input/mouse0

mouse0 should accessible by group input so e.g. libinput-gestures would be able to work.

Is there a bug or do I have wrong configuration?

Please post the line(s) from your udev config which are related to your touchpad.

I've had similar problems (not with touchpads thogh...) and I needed to use a kinda hacky workaround. But before starting to make "hacky moves" let's try to solve via non-hacky way. ;)

Oh and welcome to Gentoo. :)
