Hello there,

I just bought a CC2531 ZigBee dongle and plugged it into a Gentoo box (kernel 4.19.72). Unfortunately, lsusb does not work - when executed, I only get "unable to initialize libusb: -99".
According to lspci, a USB controller is present:
Code:
00:14.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation Atom/Celeron/Pentium Processor x5-E8000/J3xxx/N3xxx Series USB xHCI Controller (rev 35)

In my kernel config I have activated the following options:
Code:
CONFIG_USB_HID=y
CONFIG_USB_HIDDEV=y
CONFIG_USB_OHCI_LITTLE_ENDIAN=y
CONFIG_USB_SUPPORT=y
CONFIG_USB_COMMON=y
CONFIG_USB_ARCH_HAS_HCD=y
CONFIG_USB=y
CONFIG_USB_PCI=y
CONFIG_USB_ANNOUNCE_NEW_DEVICES=y
CONFIG_USB_DEFAULT_PERSIST=y
CONFIG_USB_MON=y
CONFIG_USB_EHCI_HCD=y
CONFIG_USB_EHCI_TT_NEWSCHED=y
CONFIG_USB_EHCI_PCI=y
CONFIG_USB_OHCI_HCD=y
CONFIG_USB_OHCI_HCD_PCI=y
CONFIG_USB_UHCI_HCD=y
CONFIG_USB_SERIAL=y
CONFIG_USB_SERIAL_TI=y

What can I do to identify the device?

Best regards,
Jimini

You need to plug it into a USB 2.0 port since you have decided not to activate USB 3.0 driver in kernel.

Jimini,

If that's your only USB controller, its USB3 and needs the USB3 driver ... Hint: USB xHCI

As USB3 is backwards compatible, none of the USB1 or USB2 drivers are required unless you have separate USB1 and/or USB2 hardware too.

Thank you for your replies :)
NeedySeagoons hint did the trick - I activated USB 3.0 support in the kernel and after a reboot, the device shows up:
Code:
# lsusb
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0451:16ae Texas Instruments, Inc.
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 05e3:0608 Genesys Logic, Inc. Hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 05e3:0608 Genesys Logic, Inc. Hub
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

Best regards,
Jimini
