Hi all,

I have a server setup in my basement and connected (through a rather long HDMI cable I snaked through the ceiling) to a small monitor. The monitor is small, but I increased the font size and it works great. I recently acquired a much larger monitor from a friend. However, while this monitor worked fine for my friend, I either get a completely black screen ('completely' in that the OSD won't even display unless I unplug the HDMI cable) or I get a distorted screen (see here). If I unplug the HDMI cable I get an appropriate "no signal detected" message. When I plug in a windows 10 laptop into this screen (As a secondary) the screen displays just fine, making me wonder if this is a configuration issue somehow.

Do you plug your laptop through the same cable?
It must be the cable and not configuration.

@etnull You’re correct. Long story short is that there were two problems with the cable. The first is that the server-end of the cable was actually connected by a HDMI to HDMI Mini connector (that really doesn’t sit well in the graphics card - there isn’t an onboard graphics and it’s the only card I had. I think reseating this helped). Secondly, there was an extension at the very end of the cable (i forgot about the extension) that also didn’t sit well. Apparently the connection was good enough for the much smaller screen, but not the larger one I started to use. Thanks for the input!
