|Since the latest microcode update, my computer hangs on "loading initrd" on reboot. This means, computer boots fine on cold boot, but hangs if I then reboot.
If I don't load the microcode (using the grub method with the "early_ucode.cpio" file) and use an older version from the bios, then warm boot hanging doesn't happen.
More details: Core i9 7920x on an Asrock x299 taichi xe.
Running the microcode from the bios which is sig 0x00050654 rev 0x200005e is fine.
The microcode that causes the problem appears to be rev 0x2000065.
If additional info is needed please ask. I created https://bugs.gentoo.org/700256
I posted it here under kernel & hardware as I used to include the µcode directly in the kernel. Tried then the grub approach, but I get the same result. @admins move it to portage if necessary.
Edit: others are apparently hit by the same problem https://github.com/intel/Intel-Linux-Processor-Microcode-Data-Files/issues/21.
