Hi,

I am making a new Gentoo install and post configuration of the kernel getting a kernel panic

Specs:
1) Old CPU (AMD Athlon Phenom II) with an MBR and a non-efi bios
2) Gentoo installed on Partition /dev/sda5 Swap on /dev/sda6. Partition on ext4. No separate /boot partition
3) Kernel prepared using menuconfig with only removal of drivers I donot have hardware for. ext2, ext3 and ext4 build into the kernel (ie. using *).

The picture of the error is attached, please help, i have tried building the kernel 3-4 times now.

Have you tried using
Code:

genkernel all

to generate your kernel?

Well the kernel fails to mount the root device.

Do you supply a root= parameter in the kernel command line?
Do you use a ramdisk/initramfs or do you directly use your partition?

rsnfunky,

Please put your kernel .config onto a pastebin.
Post your
Code:
lspci -knn
output, so we can see your hardware.
Post your grub.cfg file.
