Beginning with the Firefox 70 rollout the browser does'nt seem to support basic mimetypes on my box anymore. For example klicking on txt files always opens a dialog to select an app to open instead of showing it inside the browser. Firefox Prefereces show no text/plain mimetype in the "Applications" list. Any idea where to look for the cause?

Works for me™, but for starters is text/plain not inside the <firefox profile dir>/handlers.json?

Does it work with a new clean profile? If it does, migrating preferences to a new profile might be a good idea, it can get messy in there.
(Edit: you can test quick with mkdir testprofile && firefox -no-remote -profile testprofile)

I don't "think" firefox relies on mime type info provided by the system much in that regard, so I wouldn't look there.

Thank you for the quick reply. It seems that the culprit is the remote site that is only accessable through ftp anymore and as I learned from google is that firefox generally seems to have trouble with opening files in browser from ftp sites. Switched to a http mirror and everyhting is fine again. :)
