Hi all,

can you please help me set up the kernel parameters for DL360 Gen10 server? I'm trying to install gentoo for the last two days and I'm getting desperate.
After I try to reboot to Gento I get the Grub screen where I can select kernel. But right after that I get stuck on screen
Code:
Booting 'Gentoo GNU/Linux'
Loading Linux 4.19.86-gentoo ...
_

The cursor on the image doesn't blink I'm not sure if this is only display issue of the whole system hangs at this point. The display is the same both on iLO console and on display plugged in VGA on server.

I tried multiple different configuration but I always get stuck at the same point.
The last .config I used:
http://dpaste.com/0HN75T0

Here is output of lspci -nnk:
http://dpaste.com/0Z4133E

I can normally boot from Sysrescue CD, I even tryed to use the configuration from system rescue /proc/config.gz as .config for gentoo but it still hangs on the same spot.

I also looked at the other similar issues on this forum but solutions there don't work for me.

What am I missing? :?

CyberMuz,

The only storage device I see in lspci is
Code:
b1:00.0 Serial Attached SCSI controller [0107]: Adaptec Smart Storage PQI 12G SAS/PCIe 3 [9005:028f] (rev 01)
   Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Smart Array P408i-a SR Gen10 [103c:0602]
   Kernel driver in use: smartpqi

and its kernel driver is off.
Code:
# CONFIG_SCSI_SMARTPQI is not set

If you have NVME devices digectly on the PCIe bus, they may not show in lspci. However,
Code:
# NVME Support
#
# CONFIG_BLK_DEV_NVME is not set
SO NVME is off too.

I would have expected some console output before the kernel paniced though.

Your display controller is
Code:
01:00.1 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Matrox Electronics Systems Ltd. MGA G200eH3 [102b:0538] (rev 02)
   Subsystem: Hewlett Packard Enterprise iLO5 VGA [1590:00e4]
   Kernel driver in use: mgag200

That needs CONFIG_DRM_MGAG200, which you have
Code:
CONFIG_DRM_MGAG200=y

Ahh .. Turn off
Code:
CONFIG_FB_MATROX=y
CONFIG_FB_MATROX_G=y
CONFIG_FB_MATROX_I2C=y
You have two drivers for your video card. They will fight and neither will work.

Turn on
Code:
# CONFIG_FB_SIMPLE is not set
its harmless and should not be needed but it often works when nothing else does.

This may not be everything but its a start.

Thank you for this tips. Unfortunately it did not help, still the same issue, system hangs without any issues.
This is my current config. http://dpaste.com/09CQDVV

Also here is the ouput of different commands when I boot SystemRescue CD:
lspci -vv: http://dpaste.com/2DNVQZA
lsmod: http://dpaste.com/3FD1C1G
sysrescue /proc/config.gz: http://dpaste.com/1VR3G1M

I finally figured it out. It was missing the CONFIG_X86_X2APIC=y parameter. I'm not sure why but without this parameter the console doesn't display anything after GRUB. If I set this parameter then everything works fine.
