When I say no graphics, I mean no graphics. The last thing I see is "Loading Linux...." which is just the last thing grub2 prints before a kernel boot.

In the BIOS of the computer I have disabled the onboard graphics completely. The screen is connected to the nvidia card. I don't have the cable to try the onboard intel graphics. This computer worked fine with an MBR install. This time I went GPT, but everything else was the same. I even stole the old, working kernel config.

If I use earlyprintk=efi then I can see the screen very slowly update until tty0 gets activated instead of earlyprintkefi0, then nothing again.

I'd like to either like to get my current setup working, or change grub to work like it used to. I guess last time I had grub's target set to "pc", instead of x86-efi.

I've never installed gentoo on an efi system before, so this is all new to me and I may have made any number of silly mistakes.

I had the same issue after a fresh install.
I discovered I had built in support for i915 and never set CONFIG_FB_EFI to no
Remember to
Code:
emerge @module-rebuild
after rebuilding your kernel

The only boot parameter that made a difference for me was nomodeset

If that doesnt help please attach your kernel config

nomodeset may get you a text console, but will almost always interfere with getting the X server to work correctly.

I had CONFIG_FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE support disabled. I've never actually used a framebuffer setup before in my life. I've been stuck in my old BIOS ways forever. Enabling framebuffer console support and EFI famebuffer seems to have fixed everything.
