So i know how to change from Bios to EFI for grub installation by the use package and efi stub in make.conf.

But now i want to switch from EFI back to MBR. i cant run grub-install for my /dev/sda1 partition because it is giving a EFI directory not found.

I removed the USE from grub and from make.conf but iam still getting this error.

I change disk type to msdos but still no dice.

any ideas?

Code:
grub-install: error: /usr/lib/grub/x86_64-efi/modinfo.sh doesn't exist. Please specify --target or --directory.

:(

What does your /etc/portage/make.conf say? There should be a variable called "GRUB_PLATFORMS" in it. Set that to "pc" and re-emerge grub. More info can be found at https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/GRUB2

If that still doesn't work, try adding on the --target=i386-pc to your grub-install command.

finalturismo,

I believe skiwarz is correct with the pc USE flag, but also, the '--target' param of grub-install defaults to x86_64-efi, I think you will want '--target=i386-pc'. Check the man page of grub-install.
