So I have a thinkpad e495 and I successfully installed gentoo, but after the installation I couldn’t use the wifi card anymore and even trying to run the xorg doesn’t work.
So I search and I found that the kernel does not recognize the wifi card, I’ve tried to install linux-firmware but still no success. I was thinking I might install the new kernel as the vega8 should have new drivers. I installed the kernel using genkernel, even if I don’t need to find wich kernel module I need using genkernel, I’m a little bit confused on how to find the right module to install for the hardware

its almost always a firmware error. which will be clearly mark in kernel output with -2 cannot load whatever.

what you need to do is prolly just open a console, do a dmesg | grep -- -2 , follow the output, figure out if your firmware is in linux firmware or you need something external.

but as complicated as firmware is, it always starts with that command.

dmesg | grep -- -2

trust me. and then google the file missing.

Federile, welcome to the forums. We need more information in order to help you. Please start by posting the output of emerge --info ; lspci -k ; lsusb so that we can see basic information about your system. You say the kernel does not recognize the wifi card. Why do you think it does not recognize it? What did you do that did not work as expected?
