I'm building a PC with ryzen3600 and rx5700xt.
I've heard lots of complaints about super bad drivers and system crashes on Windows 10.

Is Radeon[/code] OK on Gentoo? How it compares to Nvidia?

My experience with Radeons is that the hdmi audio and power management parts of the driver are non-existent for the first few months after a new card's release, but it gradually becomes more stable after that. The Navi GPUs are a year old by now, so you should be safe with the latest kernel, or 5.6.

As for nvidia... almost weekly I see people here and in other places online suffering the exact same problems I had with nvidia drivers in the mid-2000s. The company really doesn't care. Time is money, and Nvidia on Linux is too expensive of a proposition for me.

C1REX,

The nVidia binary blob is a bit of an oddball.
Its the same code as used on Windows with an open source 'wrapper' that translates between the two different interfaces.

If you need a bleeding edge kernel for parts of your system, you may nee to wait for nVidia to update the 'wrapper' so it works with a new kernel.
Neither AMD nor nVidia are good with linux graphics card support. AMD are the least worst.

I've just been building a new box with ryzen 3900x and rx570xr, so the cpu is bigger, and the video card older. All seems at first sight to be working OK. I've not yet tried games. The open source AMDGPU video driver seems OK, though there's a very high stream of fixes, enhancements and support for new models means you need to (a) track kernel and driver updates, and (b) be prepared to hang on to old versions until they fix the next bug. You need to use kernel 5, not 4, so it's ~amd64. Hmm, I don't think I have that set on my amdgpu driver; probably not wise; I'll change that!

Read the wiki articles on Ryzen and AMDGPU (not Radeon) for configuration stuff.

One issue I had: after some hours of use (somtimes after half an hour) the graphical system lagged/froze for 20 Seconds, every time I switched Windows.

Turned out that regularly requesting the graphics card temperature was causing the issue. (Mate-Sensors-Applet / libsensors).

After I threw the sensor value out, I never had any problems again. (Kernel 5.4.xx)

it is a little tricky to set up first time AMD radeon. Though possible with a couple of days of tinkering.
I used to use Nvidia for over a decade. So learning curve for gentoo veteran is still steep.

LLVM + MESA + something else I cant remember, and Xorg, and all works as expected.
I don't use built in speakers on my screen.(got good sound card + amp + good earphones, so see no reason for screen speakers)

May be couple of games from collection don't work under AMD compared to Nvidia. Most notably, Dying light.

I have very similar specs to you. same gpu, slightly better Ryzen.
Specific version of kernel works very well for me: 5.4.0-rc.
So yeah, those are my thoughts.
