Hello all,

I have a Thinkpad X1 Extreme Gen 2 with a HiDPI screen and an Nvidia card.

I am trying to boot the install media. After selecting gentoo from the grub menu, I get a black screen and nothing happens. Are there any parameters that I could pass?

- I have tried to pass nomodeset

Could someone please help me fix this issue?

Thanks.

Edit: I guess I'll need to figure out how to install from a different distro.

1nternetz,

Welcome to Gentoo.

You can try acpi=no too.

In minimal CD is just a toolkit to install Gentoo. None of its code goes into your install.

Get a root shell on your live media of choice and do
Code:
mkdir /mnt/gentoo

Now install Gentoo by following the handbook.

A root terminal in a GUI is fine too. Then you can read the handbook on line and post here while you install.

Personally, I like to install from an Archlinux-based usb, like systemrescuecd. Arch is really good about supporting every type of hardware out of the box, even if it's harder to tailor to specific requirements. I don't use it for day-to-day operation, but it's handy to have around.

Hi all,

Thanks for your replies! I went with the Arch USB. I just deflated stage 3 on my rootfs. Things are looking good.
