Hello everyone,

I plan to install Gentoo on my lenovo Thinkpad x250 (https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/thinkpad/x-series/x250/), after some reading I've found that I need to configure iwlwifi as module in the kernel and install the relative firmware.
For this the gentoo wikipage about iwlwifi says:
Quote:
"Additional firmware for the individual device is needed as listed in this table. It is available in sys-kernel/linux-firmware and in device-specific sys-firmware/iwlxxxx-*ucode packages. "

Do I need both package ? If yes, is sys-firmware/iwl3160-7260-bt-ucode the wright one ? Because It seems to be for Bluetooth only.

Thank you :)

Welcome to the Gentoo forums!

Please try running the lspci command as root. It should list which Wi-Fi adapter you have.

It really does not matter how you install the firmware. You could download it from here: Intel firmware for Linux. Copy it to /lib/firmware/ and that's it. Recommended way is via portage of course, your choice.

Depends on which device you have (you know from lspci).
And if it can be found in Linux firmware it's a good idea to use it.

I'm sorry, I forgot to specifies which one I have. Mine is a "Intel Corporation Wireless 7265".
And I assume it's in the Linux firmware because I've found some trace here.

So you found all those yellow marked hits on this page leading you to iwlwifi-7265-ucode-16.242414.0.tgz ?

Does it need to be explained more in detail on the iwlwifi wiki article?

Yes found it. Even if I think I'm going to do it with Portage :)

I don't think you need to explain it more, with your answers and after re-reading the sentence 10 times, I think it's just me who was kind of dumb.

Thanks you so much everyone for your time and help :D
