Hello friends,

I recently completed a Gentoo install on a Lenovo Thinkpad L430. I am paring the kernel down and at some point removed the drivers for my keyboard and mouse within an X environment. Everything works fine when I am in the basic tty, but every time I run startx the buttons and mouse pointer become unresponsive.

Does anyone know the name of the kernel driver for the Thinkpad's mouse and keyboard? Running xinput on an old kernel where they work as expected gives me this:

xinput
Code:

⎡ Virtual core pointer                       id=2   [master pointer  (3)]
⎜   ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer                 id=4   [slave  pointer  (2)]
⎜   ↳ ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad                   id=10   [slave  pointer  (2)]
⎜   ↳ ETPS/2 Elantech TrackPoint                 id=11   [slave  pointer  (2)]
⎣ Virtual core keyboard                      id=3   [master keyboard (2)]
↳ Virtual core XTEST keyboard                id=5   [slave  keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Power Button                               id=6   [slave  keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Video Bus                                  id=7   [slave  keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Sleep Button                               id=8   [slave  keyboard (3)]
↳ AT Translated Set 2 keyboard               id=9   [slave  keyboard (3)]
↳ ThinkPad Extra Buttons                     id=12   [slave  keyboard (3)]

I have found the Elantech Touchpad and TrackPoint in kernel menuconfig and reenabled them, and my problems persist. Keyboard works fine in tty but as soon as I launch startx I lose all control of the laptop and have to shut it down my holding down the power key.

Does anyone know offhand the name of the kernel driver for these components? I have had no luck with an internet search. I have gone through and readded all the ThinkPad and input stuff which looks relevant, and my kernel is recompiling at the moment. The pastebin attached is the result of diffing the current kernel against one where the keyboard/touchpad work, and grepping it to only show the stuff which was removed from kernel (ie: anything remaining in the paste was present on the old kernel where the touchpad/keyboard worked, and has been removed on my newer kernel). I'm thinking one of these drivers is responsible for my loss of keyboard control:

Any input would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

It's probably the Event Interface (CONFIG_INPUT_EVDEV) that you need.
