Peace,
Code:
 systemd-udevd /etc/udev/rules.d/99-vmware-scsi-udev.rules:8 Invalid value /bin/sh -c echo 180 >/sys$DEVPATH/timeout for RUN (char 27: invalid substitution type), ignoring, but please fix it.

so how to fix it?

Hi,
It is almost there. Just edit the file
Code:
/etc/udev/rules.d/99-vmware-scsi-udev.rules

and look why the variable does not get resolved:
Code:
/sys$DEVPATH/timeout

I think, there is a / missing between sys and $DEVPATH.

BR

now i get:

Code:
systemd-udevd[2754]: /etc/udev/rules.d/99-vmware-scsi-udev.rules:8 Invalid value "/bin/sh -c 'echo 180 >/sys/$DEVPATH/timeout'" for RUN (char 28: invalid substitution type), ignoring, but please fix it.
[    3.371316] systemd-udevd[2754]: /etc/udev/rules.d/99-vmware-scsi-udev.rules:8 Invalid value "/bin/sh -c 'echo 180 >/sys/$DEVPATH/timeout'" for RUN (char 28: invalid substitution type), ignoring, but please fix it.

contents of the offending file:

Code:

#
# Modify the timeout value for VMware SCSI devices so that
# in the event of a failover, we don't time out.
# See Bug 271286 for more information.

ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEMS=="scsi", ATTRS{vendor}=="VMware  ", ATTRS{model}=="Virtual disk    ", RUN+="/bin/sh -c 'echo 180 >/sys/$DEVPATH/timeout'"

thank you people very much for caring:

this got rid of the problem:

Code:
#ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEMS=="scsi", ATTRS{vendor}=="VMware  ", ATTRS{model}=="Virtual disk    ", RUN+="/bin/sh -c 'echo 180 >/sys$DEVPATH/timeout'"
ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEMS=="scsi", ATTRS{vendor}=="VMware  ", ATTRS{model}=="Virtual disk    ", ENV{DEVTYPE}=="disk", RUN+="/bin/sh -c 'echo 180 >/sys$env{DEVPATH}/timeout'"

but i have, seemingly harmless errors,
Code:
