I'm trying to upgrade my kernel but it won't boot. Grub selects the kernel and then nothing. No output what so ever.

I'm currently on gentoo-sources 5.5.2. I tried upgrading to 5.6.11 but then I have this problem on both my computers. I tried upgrading to 5.5.19, which works on one computer but not my laptop. I recompiled 5.5.2 from scratch on the laptop and now it is having this problem.

As far as I can tell, the only thing that has changed is gcc has been upgraded from 9.2.0 to 9.3.0.

Related to bug 721734?
BTW: 5.5 and 5.6 are not LTS kernels

Try enabling CONFIG_EARLY_PRINTK (or CONFIG_EFI_EARLYCON).
