I have a G3 imac 350Mhz with 40 GB of hd and 576 of built in memory ram.
I want to install gentoo G3 PPC on I partition (12GB) Mac OS X v. 10.3 another on the second partition (12 GB) and Mac OS v. 9.2 on the third partition (12 GB)

1. will Gentoo work with OX 10.3 and do I need the bugfix for 10.2.8
2. Also I previously tried to install gento on a third partition (3 of 3) with os 9.1 buf I could not get the livecd to boot with the c key. The third partition was blank and then I tried with HFS+

I am not a mac-user, but I think there shouldn't be a problem installing gentoo. Just as long as you give gentoo it's own partition(or actually three: the main partition(/), the swap-partition and the boot-partition, which is more safe than having boot on the same as /)
After install, you just have to configure LILO or GRUB(whichever you use) to also boot you OS X and v9.2.
I have a box with gentoo, mandrake and window$XP. They all work just fine(gentoo - of course - works best . 8) )

No offence ment, but LILO and GRUB are x86 boot managers. On PPC you will be using yaboot.

Gentoo works with OS 10.3 and you should be able to boot the latest Gentoo LiveCDs without problems. Just make sure that when you get to that stage, you install a kernel >= 2.4.22.

Closely follow the Gentoo PPC Install Guide and also be sure to read the Gentoo PPC FAQ.

Good luck,

Hi,

I have a iBook G4 with OSX 10.3.2 and Gentoo. Absolutely no problem to run both OS on my computer. I don't want to preach for myself but I wrote a site about Gentoo on iBook G4 maybe you could be interested: http://www.ie2.u-psud.fr/~jdemouth/ibook.xml.html.

Do you know a great tool to repart your hard drive on OSX ?

Julien

Yeah, under OS X you can use Disk Utility if you are looking for a nice GUI or pdisk if you would like to stick to the command line. There are commercial utilities, too of course but I do not see any reason for using them.
