hi,
understand that it is not possible to use airport extreme with linux, however is it possible to use the usb wireless card with ibook-powerbook/linux?

Yes, I have a Netgear MA111 connected right now. Works like a charm. Unfortunately the latest linux-wlan-ng didn't contain the USBIDs for this device but it wasn't very difficult to add them yourself. Then of course I had to fight with the portage system to get it to accept my changes. A perfect way to learn the system :P You can take a look a the compatability list here http://www.linux-wlan.org/docs/wlan_adapters.html.

I just saw that the MA111 is on that list which makes me wonder if there is a new hardware version out there which I have. Wouldn't be the first time a hardware vendor would change the hardware but keep the same name.

linux-wlan-ng also supports the Linksys WUSB11 USB adapter, version 2.6 I know works.
