just updated my kernel on my g3 ibook 700MHz to ppc-sources-2.4.24 and thought I'd have a go at dumping pmud again, everyone says it isn't necessary.

I told pbbuttonsd to replace pmud. but I can't get my ibook to go to sleep. what am I missing?

thanks

I have a similar iBook, 800 MHz rev. 2.2 -- set up with much help from your Gentoo on iBook page, BTW (thanks!). Last weekend, I was fiddling with 2.6.1 and had some mixed results with sleep and pbbuttonsd, which sound similar to the problem you're having: I found I couldn't use the 'snooze' command or the power button to put the machine to sleep. On the other hand, closing the lid did put the machine to sleep, as did waiting for pbbuttonsd to put the machine to sleep by leaving it idle long enough (the duration specified in pbbuttonsd.conf) -- in other words, pbbuttonsd seemd to be working otherwise. Does closing the lid or leaving the machine idle put your machine to sleep? Since I also had no problem waking the machine from sleep, I started to think it might have something to do with the keyboard settings changing slightly in 2.6.

Then, I noticed one possibly related item: I couldn't get gtkpbbuttons to work properly. It would run with no complaints, but the usual visual feedback didn't appear when I tried to adjust brightness/volume, and those buttons didn't seem to work. Again, I wondered if it might have been something related to the keyboard map or settings.

Unfortunately, I ran out of time, and wasn't able to investigate any further. I spent my weekend troubleshooting time getting X to work properly (for some reason, with both 'dri' and 'glx' enabled in XF86Config, X would hang; with only one of the two -- either one -- it worked fine). So, though you're dealing with a different kernel, I'm curious to hear what the solution might be.

glad the page helped you. :)

I've been in OS X for a couple months, and just rebooted back into linux for the first time in months.

I'm still fiddling. right now with both pmud & pbbuttons running, the ibook will go to sleep but when it wakes up X won't come back. I haven't updated xfree-drm for the new kernel yet though.

Updating xfree-drm might do it.

One other thought: using the ppc-sources ebuild for 2.4.24, I and some others noticed that under AGP support, the apple uninorth config option was missing, and that kernel compilations would stop with an error while compiling the AGP bits (reported on this thread). Was this a problem for you? I suppose that might also be a source of the problem, but as with 2.6.1, I didn't have time to look into it further, and just dropped back to 2.4.23-r1, which works perfectly, and also has the needed security patches included in 2.4.24.

xfree-drm update didn't help me.

oddly enough, my ppc-source-2.4.24 seems to have the apple uninorth agp support.

anyway I guess I'll try out 2.4.23-r1

even 2.4.23-r1 failed to wake back up for me. the machine woke up but the console was hung. I had to ssh in to reboot.

I'm running 2.4.22-r1 now and that wakes up for me.
