For some reason, it seems like emerge isn't using packages, even though I'm telling it to.

I've checked to make sure PKGDIR is pointing to the right place and it is. I use "--usepkg" in the command. But it always downloads what I want off the Net and configures/makes/installs which takes FOREVER on large things like X, KDE and Gnome. I let X run all last night and it finally finished sometime before I woke up. Right now, I'm compiling KDE and it's been going a good 7 hours and is nowhere near being done. That's ridiculous.

Anyone have any ideas as to what the problem could be?

Have you tried
Code:
emerge -K <packagename>
?

Yes, but it gives me the error:
Code:
Calculating dependencies |
emerge: there are no masked or unmasked ebuilds to satisfy "INSERTNAMEHERE".

!!! Error calculating dependencies.  Please correct.

I'm probably overlooking something basic.
