hi!
I read so many different things about the Airport-Cards.

I' have an ibook G3 12" 500MHz. I'll buy an airport (not Extreme) Cart and put it under the keyboad into the PCMCIA Slot.

Will the Card work? I'm using kernel 2.6 (.0)

airport is not pcmcia, it's some apple specific thing that looks like pcmcia

the original airport cards (802.11b, not 11g) work perfectly in linux.

AFAIK the internal Airport card actually is a regular PCMCIA card. There's even a third party product to turn it back into an external pcmcia card, for those who's older powerbooks have a lousy internal antenna:

And yes, unlike Airport Extreme, regular Airport works perfectly well under Linux.

that's goot. thx for the info.
if it is an PCMCIA-Card, do I need to run the PCMCIA Kerneldriver?

The card was shipped today, I'm waiting...

I goggled a little bit around, but I couln't find a good WLAN howto.
Is there any good howto? (would be goot if it is for 2.6.x and KDE 3.2).

That thing that you posted is just an antenna that plugs into the airport, which must still live in its own special slot. That antenna affixes to the opening of the empty pcmcia slot.

The airport AFAIK is not pcmcia.

It's the same size as a PCMCIA card, and it's similar in some ways, but it's not. And no you don't need PCMCIA in your kernel, just airport (and airport includes orinoco and hermes)
