I followed what was in the italian doc and the Alsa 2.6 Kernel MINI HOWTO
:
When I try to run alsamixer I get this error:
Code:

alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or directory

I tried to run alsaconf but got this error:
Code:

Loading driver...
 * Loading ALSA drivers...
 * Using ALSA OSS emulation
 * Loading: snd-mixer-oss
 * Loading: snd-pcm-oss
 * Loading: snd-seq-oss

FATAL: Error inserting snd_powermac (/lib/modules/2.6.1-benh1/kernel/sound/ppc/snd-powermac.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)

this was a generic problem cause by module-init-tools3.0_pre6 &_pre7. The solution is to downgrade to _pre5 which will solve the kernel errors.
