Obviously I must have done something wrong, because I see a lot more people asking for help with 2.6 kernels than with 2.4. Anyway, I finally got around to upgrading my ppc-sources to 2.4.24; had been using the kernel straight from benh, rsyncing that when I wanted to try something new.

When I compile and install it, and reboot, I find the keyboard and trackpad completely unresponsive. USB keyboard and mouse, if I plug them in, work fine -- except, of course, that my USB keyboard doesn't have the capability to dim my screen or change my volume (I later realized there are ways around this, but it's a pain).

Anyway, I can't find anything I might have done or not done in my kernel config that would cause this. After giving another careful look at the always-hard-to-follow kernel compile instructions at http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-ppc-install.xml#doc_chap13 , I realized that the "ADB raw keycodes" option was missing in my menuconfig. Has this option been removed, or is it another quirk like some other missing options I've seen mentioned in some other topics here?

My .config file contains the line

# CONFIG_ADB is not set

for whatever that's worth.

There is a macintosh drivers page, on it turn on ADB or mac_hid or something like that. Sorry I can't be more specific but I run 2.6 and don't have 2.4 sources around to check where the page is.

What do you know. It's now under Apple Desktop Bus (ADB) support, which I never bothered to check and with good reason:

Code:
│ Apple Desktop Bus (ADB) support is for support of devices which         │
│ are connected to an ADB port.  ADB devices tend to have 4 pins.         │
│ If you have an Apple Macintosh prior to the iMac, or a                  │
│ "Blue and White G3", you probably want to say Y here.  Otherwise        │
  │ say N.

I don't have anything on my iBook2 with 4 pins, and it does not fall into either of the categories "prior to the iMac" or "Blue and White", so I said N as advised.

I'll assume the problem is solved, and post again if it's not. Thanks :-)
