|Strange, I know. This doesn't appear to be an openpic issue, and I'm completely baffled.
g4 dual 1.25 with rv250 ati vidcard
A month ago this machine was on os x 10.2, and I was able to boot
livecd-g4-grp-1.4-cd1.iso 28-Jul-2003 01:56 477M
with no problems whatsoever, holding the c-key, or by openfirmware command.
Yesterday I installed 10.2.8 followed by 10.3 installer/update, which apparently "upgrades" open firmware, and now the very same gentoo iso will not boot. Os X install discs boot fine with c-key, gentoo does not.
A g4 533 with os x 10.2.8 WILL boot the same Gentoo install disc, so this could be be a hardware-related issue with the dual 1.25...or perhaps an indication of further open firmware meddling during Panther install.
I tried the no-stages iso from here:
to no avail. Exact same BSOD.
I also tried a YDL boot disc, same deal.
It's a darker shade of Blue than the old BSOD we know of, and it seems to happen IMMEDIATELY as the CD is accessed, but the CD drive works fine, as do other bootable discs from Apple.
So it doesn't give a kernel error or any other kind of text anything. Just BLAM, blue screen, and nothing else. Stays like that. Could this be a video card problem?
