Hi.

I am trying to access an external firewire drive after booting from liveCD 1.4 on an iBook G4 800Mhz. I need to access the firewire drive in order to install Gentoo on it (i.e., keeping the internal drive unchanged).

I am following this thread, https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=116380&highlight=ibook+firewire, up to the point where I can get scsi, sg and sg0 to appear in the /dev directory, but no sd device. My problem is that Gentoo 1.4 does not come with SCSI compiled as module, so the instruction of modprobing sd_mod does not work.

I can see my external drive name from the generic scsi device in /dev, but I don't know how to get sd to appear. I don't know how to make sd appear when the scsi is not build as a module in the kernel.

I am complete stuck with this problem, I need help bad :(

Bernard
