I have FINALLY got my HP 2200C scanjet to work in VMWare. This is one of those scanners that is not compatable with linux.

First, set up USB as usual, but use modules for everything.

Set up USB scanner support as a module. If you compile it into the kernel, Gentoo won't let go of the usb port so that the VM can use it.
That was the tough one for me. VMWare kept saying that usbscanner was tying up the device and it would not connect to it on startup.

Install the scanner software as usual in windoze and scan away!

Hope this helps someone!

Please also consider that you need usb-uhci modules and the kernel option 'USB filesystem'.
More to come later. :-)
