I'm looking for some help. I've been trying to setup and install Gentoo for about a week, spending all my time, staying up late hours and I can't get everything to work. It took me four trys of compiling and configuing kernel 2.4.22 to get it to boot and don't even get me started on how long it took to get yaboot working. ANyways, I was hoping someone could suggest from experience(you use it) what the best(most reliable) kernel and version of xfree to use with it is. I have 2.4.22 installed now but I cna't get xfree to work for the life of me, well it did run, but only 8 bit now it wont even start again! :( I upgrade to kernel 2.6 and now it locks up when booting saying mount /proc and it just sits there. So if you have a working config file that would be nice to post to so I can use that. My hardware is an ibook G4, 800Mhz 12"...pretty sure it's the radeon card inside. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Well you are the second one in 2 days asking about xfree in a depth
other than 8 bits. I am starting to think that my contribution should
go in the FAQ. Look at the last post of this thread:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=126669
and at the end of this thread for stuff about antialiasing that I originally
didn't put:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=140152

Hope that will be the end of your problem with xfree.
