I've noticed that my sound coming from my speakers has a lot of static, especially the one on the left speaker. I don't know if the speakers are damaged or if this is something else. When I use headphones I hear the sounds just fine. I'm running Esound 0.2.32 and I have all the proper modules for sound loaded. I would test this out by reinstalling OS X but I'd like to know first if there's some special configuration I need to make to get rid of the static sound. I'm also using pbbuttonsd and have sound set to 100.

Thanks for any suggestions.

What modules are you using for sound? ALSA or dmasound_pmac?

On my iBook G3 800, dmasound_pmac has always worked well for me, with both 2.4 and 2.6 kernels. I've tried ALSA, but my experience with it has generally not been great -- it's worked, but the sound has been noisy or distorted at best.

I'm using dmasound_pmac. I had it scheduled for repair. So I guess if it's still busted then we'll know it's something else.
