In an attempt to get a transparent terminal in X, I've used konsole (successfully) in KDE, and aterm, and Eterm unsuccessfully. When I run Eterm and I try to make the window transparent, I get the transparency, but the desktop background is tinted blue. Just curious if anyone else has had this problem (because I have some x86 machines that run all flavors of transparent terminals just fine).

You might be tinting it. Check the man page and there should be an option to remove the tint. On my desktop this is the command I use:

Code:

/usr/bin/aterm -tr -trsb -ls -tn xterm -sh 50% -fg white -bg black

This will shade it by 50%. Just remove the -sh 50% if you want total transparency.

Here's a screenshot of my desktop.. I've looked through all the menus for tinting options, but I don't see anything for altering hue.. This has been a problem for me across installs and across versions of Eterm and other things that are significantly less obvious, I'm sure. Anyway, I'm running the 800MHz iBook with the radeon 7500 (I think that's what it is). I think I may have developed some sort of prejudice against apple hardware running linux just because it's not a PC, but most stuff SHOULD work.. Anyway, check it!

Here's another SS of my desktop. You see in the xterm in the top-right corner the commands used to start the aterm and the Eterm.. Eterm is on the top left, and aterm is on the bottom left.

i am really impressed that there is a ppc version released alongside the x86 version...normally we have to wait a few weeks/months/years before we get the ppc version.
i am about to download and install gentoo immediately.... i am switching from another linux distro that is "easy to install" but lags way behind in ppc support.

great work
