hi folks,

after updating the kernel [to 2.6.3-r2], which went smoothly and additionally updating the linux-headers to 2.6.X, I thought to update/recompile glibc also.
emerge failed a couple of times, so I went to /var/tmp/portage/glibc... and made a "make && make install" by hand. this was a mistake. the install failed and now I'm stuck with the running aplications. emerge answers just with illegal instruction, most apps won't start.
I don't want to reboot the machine, because this would mean to start again with the live-cd, reemerging almost the whole system ..
I tried to get a prebuilt binary as rpm, but rpm2tgz fails also with an illegal instruction.
are there prebuilt [GRPs??] glibs packages for ppc out there just packed in an targz?
or is someone able to rebuild glibc 2.3.X with kernel 2.6.X and headers 2.6.X on ppc wih --buildpkg enabled and let me download it???

thanx for ur efforts!
regards,
phaidros

well, the new 2004.0 livecd/grp set just came out.

http://www.gentoo.org/main/en/mirrors.xml

once you get into a mirror, go to releases/ppc/2004.0/livecd and there are the isos for g3 and g4. you would have to download the full cd though and either burn it or mount it on a loopback device. I'm sure it will have a glibc grp tar ball on it.

I just used 'quickpkg' to build a tarball of glibc-2.3.2-r9 on my ibook g3. let me know if you want me to put it on my webserver. it is 16mb. I'm running ppc-development-sources-2.6.2_rc1-r1

yes, I downloaded the g3 image, but not the liveCD itself... :( on the g3 image is just additional stuff no glibc, no gcc and so on.

loopback is also out of order .. and - I doubt the included glibc is compiled against 2.6.X ..
