I've recently modified my iBook and have installed a new harddrive and optical drive.
Because I couldn't change the master/slave setting of the optical drive, I had to set the hard drive to slave. This is an unusual setup and should explain the problem I am having.
I don't need to press C to boot the CD, it starts booting from the CD when one is inserted. I get the normal grey screen, then I hear some CD access, and then the screen flickers, goes white and remains white.
When trying to boot the CD from the Open Firmware console, the boot process bails back out into OF with a error message saying that the file "cd:,\boot\yaboot" could not be found.
Now I know that I switched the master/slave settings for my drives, and I try to boot hd:,\boot\yaboot - and guess what? Yaboot starts up, but quickly also bails out because it can't find its files.
When I look at the list from "devalias", I see that the aliases are set incorrectly. The hd alias points to the first device, which is the optical drive in my iBook, and the cd alias points to the second device.
My guess is that I have to change the aliases for the ide devices and then everything should boot through. The problem is, what is the command to set a device alias in OF?
