Booting a self compiled kernel fails very early:

Serial: 8250/16550 driver $ Revision: 1.90 $ 8 ports, IRQ sharing disabled

Nothing happens afterwards. It just sits there.
I would have gone the genkernel route but there is no decent information on how to handle this in my yaboot.conf.

The G5 has no serial ports ;-)

A good .config to start from can be found here:

Try the G5 or the G5-SMP (if you have a dual processor machine) configuration.
