I'm trying to get get mol running [edi] And got that working now read on for full story[/edit].

I started off with a lazy
Code:
emerge -k mol

I turns out that, because I have disabled altivec support in my kernel I _have to_ recompile the kernel modules for mol.
How do I emerge only the kernel modules for mol? Is that possible? I did
Code:
emerge mol
let it do all the configuring, the ctrl-c and
Code:
 cd /var/tmp/portage/mol-0.9.68-r4/work/mol-0.9.68-r4/
make modules
However this fails with
Code:
mol-0.9.68-r4 # make modules
Making all in Linux
===========================================================
 Kernel headers:          /lib/modules/2.4.21-ppc-r2/build/include
 Module compiled for:     2.4.21-ppc-r2-noav
 Running kernel:          2.4.21-ppc-r2-noav
===========================================================

make[3]: *** [init.o] Error 1
make[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: *** [modules_] Error 2
make: *** [modules] Error 2
So I switched off Jimbo, so distcc would time out and try local:
Code:
mol-0.9.68-r4 # make modules
Making all in Linux
===========================================================
 Kernel headers:          /lib/modules/2.4.21-ppc-r2/build/include
 Module compiled for:     2.4.21-ppc-r2-noav

This error is known on the maconlinux mailing list, it is solved in later versions. So I decided to go with the instructions on www.maconlinux.org (rsync with tree)
Code:
make modules
= Building mol-0.9.70-rc2 [Mar 7 2004 16:12]
    Compiling asfilter.o          : ok
= Building asfilter               : .objs-ppc/asfilter.o: file not recognized: File format not recognized
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
distcc[28760] ERROR: compile on localhost failed
make[1]: *** [.objs-ppc/asfilter] Error 1
make: *** [modules] Error 2

Where do I go from here? Any ideas?

This (or a similar) error is documented here.

Does this mean that the gentoo-1.4 mol is no good?

A follow up:
I tried to get a newer version installed with
Code:
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~ppc" USE="fbcon" emerge ">mol-0.9.68-r4"
Calculating dependencies ...done!
>>> emerge (1 of 1) app-emulation/mol-0.9.70_rc2 to /

This gives another error:
Code:

!!! mol can't build with FEATURES 'userpriv' and 'strict' set.

I don't have those FEATURES set :? hmm... yes apparently I do actually at least 'userpriv', so I removed them from my FEATURES line... now it compiles

I'll let you know if I actually get things up and running

Yes, I can boot OS9 from CD now, and also my 'normal' OS9.1 HD partittion. I think I'll install a clean OS9, just for running from linux, because my normal system-folder has got some extensions dat cause mol to hang (cpu upgrade card)

In concl: mol-0.9.69 didn't work, mol-0.9.70_rc2 does work
