I cannot seem to to get openoffice to run here on my G3 ibook.
I've tried both the source installation (emerge openoffice) and the binary installation
(emerge openoffice-bin) and neither one has worked.

If I try to run an openoffice program from the x-windows menu (in gnome or kde)
it just quietly does nothing...and obviously so because if I run it from a xterm shell
I get "Aborted (core dumped)"
And of course, the more I try , the more core files show up in my home directory.

So far the only thing I can run is ~/.openoffice/1.0.2/setup,
(aka /opt/OpenOffice.org1.0.2/program/setup)...I tried running the "Repair"
option...but I didnt really think that would help anyway.
Sigh..:(

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has actually gotten this beast to run on their ppc?
Or has anyone else had this problem? Any Ideas on what the problem might be?
Or possible solutions? Thanx in advance!

Yes, I got OpenOffice to run on my powerbook g4, but I downloaded the binary OOo_1.1.0_LinuxPowerPC_installer.tar.gz from http://mirrors.wamug.org.au/yellowdog/software/openoffice/ and installed this version.

Runs nicely :-)

I compiled openoffice-ximian 1.1 from source, which worked fine.

Thanks guys..I'll try those suggestions.
Normally I wouldnt even bother with it, I'd just use koffice. But I need Open Office very badly on my laptop...It's the main reason I installed gentoo on it in the first place.
Thanks again, hopefully one of those will work. :)

Relentless,

FYI: OpenOffice is also available for OS X running under X11 and even running without X11 (NeoOffice/J). Have a look at porting.openoffice.org and www.planamesa.com/neojava/.
