I am just about to reinstall gentoo on my pc and i was wondering if this would work:

Use distcc somehow running on my powerbook G4 in macosx to help compile things on the pc while it installs.

I doubt it's possible but macos is basically unix and i assume distcc is cross-platform normally?

If anyone know's if this might be possible please tell me as it would allow me to install gentoo a lot easier on my pcs :-)

Thanks.

/should/ be possibe, i've done it the other way. You'd need to compile a whole GCC toolchain with a x86 target on the mac though (will take a wee while) have a look at crosstool (http://www.kegel.com/crosstool/) for guidance.

Do you run gentoo on your powerbook?

I just run MacosX 10.3 (with fink for a few linux bits).

I've never tried distcc before so i wouldn't know where to begin, it just seemed like it would be a good idea to utilise the nice fast G4 processor while installing gentoo on my pc :-)

I don't run gentoo on the mac because it has no 3d acceleration support for my graphics card or drivers for airport extreme and i need both of those to work for it to be useful.

I did it the crosstool way, which should work for you too (it's just some scripts). You may have to mess around a bit with makefiles though, dunno. Do a search on this forum, and the alternative architectures one - cross compiling is reasonably well documented.
