If you're looking for 2.6, I imagine that you would want to try one of the following:

development-sources: "Full sources for the vanilla 2.6 kernel tree"
gentoo-dev-sources: "Full sources including the gentoo patchset for the 2.6 kernel tree"
ppc-development-sources: "Full sources for the linux kernel 2.6 with benh's patchset"
This seems to give you more ppc-related hardware support.

Sorry I can't give you a definitive choice, as I'm using Intel, but I have been running gentoo-dev-sources without any problems.

Yeah go for the benh sources, you should find support for all your hardware in there. Sadly I don't have a G5 to play with yet I had to buy my ibook first. Perhaps I'll get me a dual 3Ghz G5 when they get released this summer

Good luck, let us know how the install goes!
