I have a question on how to mount a usb drive. I insert the drive and after a few seconds I can do a lsusb and see the /proc info. How do I mount the drive? Most of the howto's i read said that i should have a /dev/sda however i have no sd devices in dev. Am I missing something?

lsusb shows:

I just installed gentoo on by G4 laptop and had the sme problem. Looks like they don't
presetup the scsi devices. If you do this you should get something - at least it worked here.

1. Become root
2. cd /dev
3. create the scsi entries as

mknod sda b 8 0
mknod sda1 b 8 1
mknod sda2 b 8 2

and so on. I created through sda4 but depending on how many partitions your device has
you may need to go higher. 15 is max. You can create sdb by doing the same thing but
the 8 becomes a 16.

After that plug in your scsi device and mount to sda1.

Hope it works

chris

I tried what you said but it didn't work. The problem is I am not sure of the state of my system anymore. I am going to try and re-install with 2004 iso and try again this weekend. I'll let you know how it goes.
