Hello,

I am installing Gentoo on my 1Ghz Xserve with the 1.4 liveCD (2004.0 LiveCD hangs at boot saying can not find cloop), when I go to partion the drive, I get an error from mac-fdisk telling me that the file system is read only.

So I thought I would reboot into Yellow Dog Linux and partion with that, and that works, but then once I reboot into Gentoo, mac-fdisk does not see the partions I made...

What am I doing wrong?

Did you partition the drive first using Mac OS disk utility?
I think that's in the gentoo install docs. Mac-fdisk will not see parts created with fdisk, AFAIK.

sounds like an older kernel .. if you look at dmesg hda is likely your cdrom drive, and hdc is the hard drive ;) This has been fixed in newer kernels AFAIK, but that will get you going hopefully (also note if you plan on running a newer kernel that what is supplied there you will have to setup your /etc/fstab and friends accordingly as on the new kernel it will be hda as it should be again).

Can get tricky, I would file a bug and complain for a working live cd ;)
