With pbbuttonsd I can get my TiBook G4 to go from dim to blank with a flashing "-" in the upper left corner of the screen, but then TiBook does not respone to any key input except the power key. Believe it or not when I hold the power key it goes to sleep, then if I press it or any other key it reboots! :?

Same problem - I press the power button, gtkpbbuttons shows the sleep message, and then most everything turns off - the hard drive spins down, the track pad doesn't work, the keyboard doesn't work - and I see a flashing '_' in the upper-left corner. If I move my USB mouse, debug messages show up as if I had pressed ctrl-alt-F12. It doesn't show any messages for any other device.

Just about the only thing I can do is press and hold the power key, which turns the computer all the way off, and then press it again, which turns it back on (I think the previous post had this sequence of events a little backwards).

I have a Titanium PowerBook G4, 667 MHz, Radeon Mobility 7500, 80G, 512M, airport, xorg (xfree didn't work either).

When I was using the ppc-development-sources 2.6.1-benh kernel included on the 2004.1 LiveCD, sleep worked perfectly. Now I'm using development-sources 2.6.7.

Don't complain, you lucky guys. My 12" PB with a NVidia chip might never go to sleep (at least not with linux)

My pbbuttonsd now works, pbbuttonsd version 0.6.1 with kernel 2.6.7-r8, xfree, and gtkpbbuttons.

Still doesn't work, pbbuttonsd 0.6.1, gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.7-r8, xorg, gtkpbbuttons. Before I get rid of xorg and try xfree again... my shutdown command doesn't work either. I wonder if it's related?

I have my display dimming and shutting off now on my 12" pb. I can also suspend to disk with the machine but no suspend to ram. .. I"ve been wondering how cool my machine would run if I shutdown the hd and killed the display and declocked my cpu.. something I need to try :-).

I just found this post in another forum, solving the blank-screen-blinking-cursor problem.

i managed to figure out a pretty dirty hack to get through this. to get these later kernel versions to sleep properly (since 2.6.4) you need to comment out line 1837 of drivers/serial/pmac_zilog.c where it says ".suspend = pmz_suspend,". Then you can recompile your kernel and use all of those goodies that come with recent kernel versions.

Thanks!
I turned off CONFIG_SERIAL_PMACZILOG completely (I don't have any serial ports I know about). It's in Devices -> Character dev -> Serial drivers -> PowerMac z85c30 ESCC support.
Now I can put the Ibook to sleep, and it wakes up fine, but the fan keeps turning.... Sad (well, not in sleep mode)

Jan.

Well there we go now! BTW, my Powerbook G3 Lombard (bronze keyboard) won't wake properly, but at least it will go to sleep! Haven't tried it on G4 yet.
